Secretary, Divisional Council of Carnarvon

The District of Carnarvon was constituted a Division together with Fraserburg and Victoria West for fiscal purposes in terms of Proclamation No 6 of 1880 dated 1 January 1880. Proclamation No 115 of 1881 dated 1 August 1881 constituted Carnarvon a separate Divisional Council (Cape of Good Hope Government Gazette dated 2 January 1880 and 2 August 1881).

On 1 January 1980 the Divisional Council of Carnarvon was reconstituted together with the Divisional Council of Williston to form the amalgamated Divisional Council of Kareeberg (The Province of the Cape of Good Hope Official Gazette No 4061 of 20 July 1979, Proclamation No 174 of 18 July 1979).

Secretary, Divisional Council of Vaalharts

The Divisional Council of Vaalharts was constituted on 1 July 1960 in terms of Proclamation No 36 of 12 March 1960 (The Province of the Cape of Good Hope Official Gazette No 3018, 18 March 1960).

On 1 July 1989 the Divisional Council Areas of Hay, Vaalharts and Vaalrivier were reconstituted together as the Diamantveld Regional Services Council (The Province of the Cape of Good Hope Official Gazette No 4580 of 31 March 1989, Provincial Notice No 341 of 31 March 1989).

Secretary, Divisional Council of Barkly West

The Standing Rules and Orders of the Divisional Council of Barkly West, framed in terms of Act No 4 of 1865 were published under Government Notice No 363 dated 30 March 1882.

On 1 January 1980 the Divisional Council of Barkly West was re-constituted together with the Divisional Councils Kimberley and Herbert to form the amalgamated Divisional Council of Vaalrivier (The Province of the Cape of Good Hope Official Gazette No 4061 dated 20 July 1979, Proclamation No 174 of 18 July 1979).

Secretary, Divisional Council of Prieska

The Divisional Council of Prieska was constituted on 30 June 1887 in terms of Proclamation No 113 (Cape of Good Hope Government Gazette No 6875, 1 July 1887). The first meeting of the Council was held on 23 August 1888 (see volume 4/PKA 1/1/1/1, p 2).

On 1 January 1980 the Divisional Council of Prieska was reconstituted together with the Divisional Councils of Britstown and Hopetown to form the amalgamated Divisional Council of Prieska (The Province of the Cape of Good Hope Official Gazette No 4061 dated 20 July 1979, Proclamation No 174 dated 18July 1979).

The districts into which the Division of Hanover were to be subdivided for the purposes of Act No 4 of 1865 were proclaimed on 1 February 1881 in terms of Proclamation No 21 of 1881 (Cape of Good Hope Government Gazette No 6108, 4 February 1881). The first meeting of the Council was held on 2 May 1881 (4/HAN 1/1/1/1).

On 1 January 1980 the Divisional Council of Hanover was reconstituted together with the Divisional Councils of De Aar and Philipstown to form the amalgamated Divisional Council of Bo-Karoo (The Province of the Cape of Good Hope Official Gazette No 4061 of 20 July 1979, Proclamation No 174 of 18 July 1979).

Secretary, Divisional Council of Vryburg

On 8 November 1886 the division of Vryburg was subdivided into six districts for Divisional Council purposes under section 4 of Act No 4 of 1865 (Cape of Good Hope Government Gazette No 6789, 15 November 1886, Proclamation No 20, 8 November 1886). The first meeting of the council was held on 16 March 1887.

On 1 January 1980 the Divisional Council of Vryburg was reconstituted together with the Divisional Council of Mafeking to form the amalgamated Divisional Council of Stellaland (Province of the Cape of Good Hope Official Gazette No 4061, 20 July 1979, Proclamation No 174, 18 July 1979).

Secretary, Divisional Council of Loxton

On 1 July 1936 the Divisional Council of Loxton was constituted and the boundaries described (The Province of the Cape of Good Hope Official Gazette No 1642 dated 19 June 1936, Proclamation No 70 dated 16 June 1936). The first meeting of the council was held on 30 November 1936 (The Province of the Cape of Good Hope Official Gazette No 1671 dated 4 December 1936, Notice dated 25 November 1936).

On 1 January 1980 the Divisional Council of Loxton was reconstituted together with the Divisional Councils of Victoria West and Richmond to form the amalgamated Divisional Council of Central Karoo (The Province of the Cape of Good Hope Government Gazette No 4061 dated 20 July 1979, Proclamation No 174 dated 18 July 1979).

On 30 July 1859 the division of Richmond was subdivided into six districts for Divisional Council purposes under Act No 5 if 1855 (Cape of Good Hope Government Gazette No 3060 dated 5 August 1859, Proclamation No 73 dated 30 July 1859). The first meeting of the council was held on 6 December 1859 (Cape of Good Hope Government Gazette No 3088 dated 11 November 1859, Notice dated 5 November 1859).

On 1 January 1980 the Divisional Council of Richmond was reconstituted together with the Divisional Councils of Victoria West and Loxton to form the amalgamated Divisional Council of Central Karoo (The Province of the Cape of Good Hope Official Gazette No 4061 dated 20 July 1979, Proclamation No 174 dated 18 July 1979).

Secretary, Divisional Council of Gordonia

The elected members of the Divisional Council of Gordonia were announced in a Government Notice of 11 April 1907. The first meeting of the Council was held in the Court House, Upington on 15 May 1907 (Cape of Good Hope Government Gazette No 8954, 19 April 1907).

On 31 March 1989 the Divisional Council Areas of Gordonia and Kenhardt were established as the Benede-Oranje Regional Services Council with effect from 1 July 1989 (The Province of the Cape of Good Hope Official Gazette No 4580 of 31 March 1989, Provincial Notice No 336 of 31 March 1989).

Secretary, Divisional Council of Herbert

The Divisional Council of Herbert was established on 17 March 1879 under provision of Proclamation No 5 of 1879 in terms of the Divisional Councils Act of 1865 (Griqualand West Government Gazette No 130, 21 March 1879).

On 1 January 1980 the Divisional Council of Herbert was reconstituted together with the Divisional Councils of Kimberley and Barkly West to form the amalgamated Divisional Council of Vaal River (The Province of the Cape of Good Hope Official Gazette No 4061, 20 July 1979, Proclamation No 174, 18 July 1979).
