History

The District Forest Officer, Kokstad, fell under the control of the Conservator of Forests, Transkeian Conservancy, Umtata. In 1897 the forestal district of Kokstad comprised the forest stations at Kokstad, Mount Ayliff, Mount Frere, Mvenyani, Qumbu and Umzimkulu (volume FCT 2/1). The first District Forest Officer at Kokstad was appointed on 21 May 1892 (Civil Service List, 1893, p 69).
